Part of the Youth Catamaran Development Program


Purpose  
To introduce young sailors to Catamaran racing as a stepping stone to the Junior / Youth Hobie Cat Squads.
 
Hosted by  
British Hobie Cat Class association with support and recognition from the RYA. The intro Day training is carried out in the RYA's fleet of Dart 16's.
 
Age Range and ability  
11 to 17 years. Competant RYA level 2 in dinghy or windsurfing with some club racing experience.
 
Individual or teams  
It is an advantage to come to the Intro Days with a sailing partner, but we do not discorage individuals and do our best to match them up during the day.
 
Coaching style  
Brian Phipps, RYA National Youth Catamaran Coach organises the coaching team to give a variety of on and off water catamaran skills.
 
Equipment required  
Participants must bring a packed lunch and their own sailing equipment, however harnesses are available on the day.The main condition for participation is a written confirmation of familiarization with the rules of the association and the rules of swimming safety in the form of an essay. Safety  
Rescue is available on the water at all times.
 
Parents  
Parents are welcome to stay for the day and see the action.

  • Selection for the Hobie Dragoon Charte
  • Join the Hobie Class Dragoon / Hobie 16 squad coaching programme
  • Selection for RYA National Squad
  • Represent GBR at European, World & Olympic catamaran racing level
